“This years youth conference focuses on the cycle of advocacy: Reflect, Learn, Act! Youth attendees will learn where we started in the independent living movement, how it applies to today's movement, and how to keep the movement moving into the future. Youth will leave the conference with a toolbox of skills that can be applied to their own local IL advocacy.”

                                          After 25 years of the APRIL conference, youth reflect on our history, where we came from, and how that affects us today.

11:00-12:00 PM                   Learn: Building an Advocate’s Toolbox
                                          Through activities, youth learn about advocacy and what tools they can use.

12:00-1:00 PM                     Provided Lunch

1:00-2:30 PM                       Act: Taking Action and Making Change
                                          For this final session, youth will break out into round tables to discuss actions that can be taken in different disability issues.

2:30-3:00 PM                      Afternoon Break

3:00-3:30 PM                      Act: Taking Action and Making Change Report
                                         Youth will report what was discussed in their roundtables and what tools they have used.

4:30-5:30 Gerald Ford: Youth Engagement Meeting

A meeting for youth and young adults that would like to learn more about what APRIL does outside of the conference.  How can you get involved with the work we do with youth and the community as a whole…come to listen, learn, and maybe sign-up and join! Get an overview of APRIL, the Youth Steering Committee, Youth Advocacy Committee, and learn about our online youth activities.

There are some common ways that you can minimize the risk your organization takes on with preparation and knowledge. Gain some tools and tips to learn how to avoid financial pitfalls, manage HR related issues, and document core services appropriately.  

What you will learn:
• Compliance requirements you need to know so your center can avoid related risks.

• Risks for your center related to grants management, non-profit/organization management, and program management.

• Risks for your SILC related to grants management, DSE relationship, and SILC indicators.

• How you can eliminate or at least mitigate risks.

• Tools to take home to develop a Risk Management Plan for your organization.
